Privacy Policy — Sonny

Last updated: August 6, 2026

Sonny is developed by Black Zwan Labs LLC.

The Short Version

Sonny listens when you press the button, sends what you said to OpenAI — the company that makes ChatGPT — to be understood, and speaks an answer back. To do that, your voice has to leave your device for a few seconds. It is not saved by us, not sold, and not tied to your name. There are no accounts. We do not know who you are.

What Sonny Sends

Your voice.

When you hold the button and speak, Sonny records that clip and sends it to our server, which passes it to OpenAI to turn into words. Our server does not keep the recording — it is discarded as soon as the reply is sent back to you. OpenAI may hold it briefly to check for misuse, then deletes it.

Your words.

The text of what you said is sent to OpenAI to generate a reply, and that reply is sent back to OpenAI to be spoken aloud. Within a single conversation, the exchange so far is included so Sonny can follow along. When the conversation ends, it is gone from our side — we do not store conversation history, and there is no way to look up what you said before.

An anonymous ID.

The first time you open Sonny, the app creates a random string of characters and stores it on your device. It is how we apply your free trial and check whether you have a subscription. It is not your name, your email, or your phone number, and it is not connected to anything else about you. Delete the app and that ID is gone forever.

What Sonny Does Not Collect

We do not ask for or store your name, email address, phone number, address, contacts, photos, or location. There is no sign-up. There is no password. There is no profile.

Analytics

We use a product analytics service to understand how the app is used in aggregate — how many conversations get started, where people get stuck, whether a feature is working. These events are tied only to the anonymous ID described above and never include the content of what you said to Sonny.

Subscriptions and Payment

If you subscribe, the purchase is handled by Apple. We never see your credit card, billing address, or Apple ID. We use a subscription management service to tell the app whether your subscription is active. That service receives only the anonymous ID and the receipt Apple provides.

Service Providers

Sonny relies on a small number of companies to work.

OpenAI OpCo, LLC performs three functions for Sonny: converting your speech to text, generating Sonny's replies, and converting those replies into spoken audio. Your voice recording, the resulting transcript, and the text of Sonny's reply are sent to OpenAI for these purposes. OpenAI does not use this data to train its models. OpenAI may retain API requests for a limited period to monitor for misuse, after which they are deleted.

Vercel Inc. hosts the server that passes messages between your device and OpenAI.

RevenueCat, Inc. manages subscription status. It receives only the anonymous ID and the receipt Apple provides.

PostHog, Inc. provides aggregate product analytics. Events are tied only to the anonymous ID and never include the content of what you said to Sonny.

We require each of these companies, by contract, to protect your information to a standard equal to or greater than the protections described in this policy, to use it only to perform services for Sonny, and not to sell it or use it for their own purposes. We do not sell your information to anyone.

Please Don't Tell Sonny Secrets

Sonny is a helpful assistant, not a vault. Avoid saying things like your Social Security number, bank account numbers, passwords, or full medical records out loud to the app. Sonny does not need them and has no use for them.

Sonny is also not a doctor, lawyer, financial advisor, or emergency service. For anything urgent, call 911 or a real professional.

Children's Privacy

Sonny is designed for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Your Choices

Because Sonny stores nothing about you on our servers beyond an anonymous counter, there is very little to request or delete. If you want a clean slate, deleting the app from your device erases the anonymous ID and all local settings. If you have a question about your data anyway, write to us and we will answer honestly.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. If the change is significant, we will tell you in the app.
